Bergamot essential oil is one of our favorite product ingredients at Lica Cole. As a key top note in products like our Good Vibe Moisturizing Milk and our Polishing Paste, Bergamot creates a clean, refreshing aroma great for relaxing nerves and soothing anxiety.
Bergamot essential oil is produced by cells inside the rind of a Bergamot orange fruit. This tropical plant, scientifically called Citrus Aurantium or Citrus Bergamia, is native to Southeast Asia, but was introduced to Europe, particularly Italy. It can also be found in the Ivory Coast, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.
While most essential oils are created through steam distillation, Bergamot is extracted by a cold pressing process. It is a common top note in perfumes due to its powerful aroma. It is also used to flavor Earl Grey tea.
While the aromas of many citrus oils are known to be stimulating or invigorating, Bergamot oil has unique calming capabilities that can help when stress levels are high. This simultaneous uplifting and calming effect can add an amazing effect to your day.
The inviting citrus scent of Bergamot has the power to penetrate other oils and aromas without destroying them. Therefore, this makes Bergamot a great oil to combine with other essential oils to create an aromatherapeutic experience.
Although essential oils blend well with one another, Bergamot oil goes particularly well with frankincense, geranium, jasmine, orange, rosemary, sandalwood, and ylang-ylang.
We suggest trying Bergamot and lavender together for a soothing , non drowsy effect to the mind, body and soul.
Bergamot’s list of therapeutic properties is lengthy. It can be used as an antidepressant, antiseptic, antibiotic, calmative, deodorant, and can aid in digestive issues. Its clean and refreshing citrus fragrance is also an effective antidote against, anxiety, urinary tract infections and indigestion. The oil has a balancing and toning effect on the nervous system which makes it effective against psychological disturbances as well.
Although Bergamot is strong in fragrance, it is gentle enough to use on the skin. Popular in aromatherapy massages, this purifying oil makes a great skin mask or treatment to any type of skin.
